Unique Baby Shower Gifts - Children's Car Seat Covers

Wondering what to give an expecting parent as a shower gift? Children's car seat covers are great for so many reasons as new parents will discover and 'seasoned' parents can confirm.

Babies are endearing and enchanting and fill your heart with more love than you ever thought possible. They are also messy and dirty and can fill every inch of your car with food and spit up.

There is a new fad of covering infant and toddler car seats with custom fabric and prints. The seats can be as unique as your child and can be purchased in a variety of fabrics and colours. Children's car seat covers can be used to show the gender of the child (or not) and can match your child's room or diaper bag or whatever. They can also be reused and recycled and be passed on to different children at different times. It will also protect your car seat and likely extend the life of it as sticky messes eventually gum up the straps and 5 point harness clips.

These covers go right over the existing seat as often the seats are covered with a very plain and neutral covering. The covers also don't usually come off and what little junior stains his seat with today will still be there a year or 2 from now.

When purchasing a children's car seat cover, it is important to consider the fit and fabric as well as the overall look you are trying to achieve. For fit, you want to purchase a cover that is designed to be used with your specific car seat. You don't want your cover to be too loose or too tight. Higher priced seat covers tend to be made with better quality fabric and likely will wash and wear better and last longer. The overall look you wish to achieve is also important as some parents want people to know their little ones are "princesses" or a real" boys boy". The covers can also show the personality of the parents, such as nature or animal lovers.

As a parent of two children and owner of 4 messy and stained car seats, a cover or two would have been helpful and gratefully accepted as gifts.

5 Items Your Baby Must Have

Once we find out that we're pregnant, we almost automatically start preparing. Babies need a lot of things to get them through their day, and to grow up happy and healthy. Not to mention, there are a lot of must have items that a baby needs. Besides the basic things like food and diapers, what items do our babies need? Listed below are 5 items your baby shouldn't go without.

Car seat - First of all, every child needs a car seat. These are a must, and will help your baby have a safe car ride whenever you take them with you. It is illegal to hold them while they're in the car. Therefore a car seat is something you cannot go without.

Crib - Your baby will also need his or her own place to sleep. A crib is their own little bed that you can put them in before they go to bed. You know that they will be safe in it, and that they are locked in.

Baby monitor - It is also a good idea to get a baby monitor. If you want to feel more at ease knowing they're safe while you're sleeping, these are highly recommended. You will be able to here every noise they make while they're away from you. If they're crying, or need you, you will know immediately.

Stroller - A stroller is another must have item for your baby. Unless you want to carry them around wherever you go, you'll need one of these helpful items.

Toys - Your baby should also be entertained at a young age. It helps their brain develop. Seeing bright colors, different patterns, and feeling different materials helps them learn the different things that are out there.

As you may already know, your baby is a very expensive item. Although they may be expensive, it is a must that they have these items. For a happy, safe and healthy baby to grow up they will need these items!

Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Car Seat Pink Daisy

Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Car Seat Pink Daisy Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Car Seat Pink Daisy
Description
Once your child outgrows her rear-facing infant car seat, she's still required ride in a car seat or a booster for several more years to come. So rather than investing in a succession of seats and boosters, try the Graco Nautilus 3-in 1 Toddler Car Seat, the only forward-facing car seat your child will need. Its five-point harness accommodates children up to 65 pounds, and its convertible booster/backless booster can hold children up to 100 pounds in weight--longer than most other convertible car seats.

Best Customer Review

- I am more than pleased with this purchase. i bought it for 0 from Walmart a week ago and it is my second car seat purchase. This seat is ultra safe. It gets great ratings on Consumer Reports in all areas, but especially crash safety and ease of use. It allows extended use of 5 point harness (up to 65 lbs vs. 40 lbs)and has four shoulder strap adjustments (I have never seen more than three!). The headrest can be set so high that a small adult could use it. Plus, the high back comes off to make it a backless booster!! This is the only booster I've seen with that feature under 0. The arm rests do not adjust, but they have cubbies inside them to keep crayons and wikki stix. One of my fav features is the cup holder that is built into the armrest b/c it is so super sturdy that it securely holds a very large full cup... and I can easily reach it from the driver's seat! and it does not stick out the side, which is inconvenient for other back passengers. My last rear-facing convertable car seat by Safety 1st was extremely difficult to adjust the harness ~ this one is EXTREMELY easy!! Also, the shoulder padding is not only removeable for cleaning, but it velcro's for super easy removal, and it has an additional pad on the crotch buckle. As I said, I cannot say enough great things about this car seat!!

Yet for busy parents, finding the time to research the best booster seats on the market today can not only be time-consuming; it can be downright overwhelming! Luckily for frazzle parents everywhere, we've taken the guesswork out of buying your best booster seat - so consider this article your ultimate guide to the best booster seats that money can buy!

For those parents who travel more by plane than by train or automobile - and don't want to leave their child's safety in the hands of those rickety airline booster seats - than the Compass B510 Booster is the perfect choice for the jetsetter family.  Light, durable and easy to handle, the Compass B510 Booster can go from the car to the airport with ease, but that doesn't mean it's sacrificed any safety in the process - this great booster seat has all of the necessary padding to keep your baby safe and sound, including side impact protection.  Get your hands on one for the low price of $64.99 (online price only) and up.

When purchasing a booster seat that will protect and accommodate your growing bundle of joy, then any one of these fantastic booster seats will definitely be worth your money.  For more information on these seats, check out Consumerreport.com or head to online stores to grab these seats at a great discounted price!

Baby Furniture - Wonderful Baby Gift For Mothers to Be

A baby on the way means there are lots of preparations to make. One big cost a mother who is expecting a baby can plan on covering is the purchase of baby furniture. There are certain items most families will need for their babies. If the family has a vehicle, then a car seat will be purchased. There are many different types of car seats available. Some are just for newborns, while others, referred to as "convertible" car seats, can grow with your child. In most cases, a convertible car seat can only safely transport and protect babies who weigh under forty pounds, so once your child reaches that weight, you'll need to upgrade to a larger capacity car seat.

A sling or a stroller is a great way to transport your baby while on the go. Most baby furniture stores will carry a large selection of strollers. There are basic umbrella strollers, midline strollers, and expensive lavish strollers. Each type of stroller has its own set of benefits to offer you. A sling is a close and intimate way to carry around a baby during the first few months of life, and is the perfect solution for breastfeeding mothers who wish for a convenient, mostly hands-free and semi-private way to nurse their babies in public, and even in their own home. However, babies can be quite heavy to carry once they reach twenty pounds or so, so at that point you should have a stroller to fall back on.

While a lot of new moms will co-sleep with their newborns, later on the baby will need his or her own sleeping arrangements. Most of the time, this is accomplished with a crib. Many cribs can later be converted into toddler beds and even into day beds or full size beds, so a crib, while a very expensive purchase, is certainly well worth the purchase. Most baby furniture is expensive, but it is also an excellent investment.

What other types of baby furniture can you expect to purchase? Well, most babies will need a place to be fed, so you can expect to purchase a high chair, or an indoor infant seat. When your baby grows into a toddler, then you can eventually pack away the often large and cumbersome high chair, and in its place introduce a toddler seat or booster seat. Babies need activity and movement. Consider a cradle, a baby swing, and activity centers like the popular Exo-saucer. Most baby furniture stores will carry these.

For your baby's bedroom, consider organizational baby furniture like a chest of drawers, a dresser, and a changing table. A changing table is an invaluable tool for baby organization. It can hold diapers, bathing supplies, even extra changes of baby clothes.

- Is this the safest infant seat on the market? Who knows, but it may well be. Perhaps the
"air-protect" is a gimmick, but it makes seems like a considerable advance in safety. Airbags in cars are particularly effective, and the use of passive airbags for head protection in a carseat sounds great to me.

What isn't a gimmick is that this car seat fits up to 35 lbs - which is more than any other infant seat. Plus, it isn't any heavier than a normal infant seat - the carrier weighs just 8 or 9 lbs.

The materials feel top notch, and look snazzy... Well, it looks about as cool as a carseat can look, which isn't saying much. The seat is very deep, which means true side-impact protection (airbags nonwithstanding) and more leg room for the little ones. The harness is very adjustable, and the single pull tensioner makes securing the child very easy. (The straps can be nice and loose to put the kid in, and with one tug on the tensioner, all the straps tighten right up.)

The base has an adjustable wedge so you can find the correct installation angle (supposedly) without using any towels or pool toys as shims. It works really easily, and can raise the seat to a fairly good angle to make up for deep or soft seats. Also - the infant insert isn't just a bit of padding - it has several parts and can be adjusted in many ways, which is probably why this seat can fit all the way down to a child of 4 lbs! Very well thought out.

Since some of our friends have complained of outgrowing even the (supposed) 30 lb weight-limit seats within 4-5 months, we're hoping to get much longer out of this seat. (It appears that most manufacturers raise the weight limits of their seats arbitrarily... Many children simply don't fit in the seats well before they reach the weight limit.) We were planning to get a Maxi-Cosi Mico, but heard countless stories of babies outgrowing it at 16-18 lbs! Because this Safety 1st Onboard Air 35 seat was designed significantly deeper and larger, it should last many months longer.

The canopy is plenty large enough and effective, although it isn't the smoothest to use. It's not bad, but as with many car seats we're looked at, the mechanism just isn't all that great. It is fantastic that you can leave the handle up when in the car if you want (many car seats require you to lower it) and the seat snaps into the base clearly and effortlessly every time.

For now I'm happy to give it five stars, even if there isn't much independent data supporting the air-protect feature. It's a good carseat anyway, and very competitive on features and price to anything else out there.

My only lingering concern is what stroller to dock it to. The Safety 1st Stroller that it is intended to dock with (the Aerolite LX) looks reasonable, but there are no reviews for it anywhere, nor can I find any store that sells it to have a look.

I'll post an update once the carseat gets some good use or we find another stroller that it works with.

Car Seat Buying Advice and Guide - Car Seats For Babies and Children

Choosing the Correct Car Seat

Choosing the correct car seat can often be very confusing as not only have you to ensure the correct size car seat for your child but that the car seat that you choose is also a correct fit for your car. Selecting a car seat that scores highly in the many test reports available is all very well but selecting a car seat that fits your car properly is probably the more important feature for your childs safety.

If you are in any doubt about which car seat is the correct fit for your car consult the car seat manufacturers web site as many of the leading manufacturers such as Britax, Maxicosi and Renoluxwill have a Fit Finder guide detailing which of their car seats are most suitable for your model of car.

All child restraints sold in the UK must conform to the United Nations ECE Regulation R44.03 or later version of the standard and must be clearly marked.

Choosing a car seat that is suitable for your childs weight and height.
  • Group 0+ Infant Carriers

  • Group 0: for babies upto 10 kgs (22 lbs) approximately from birth to 6-9 months.

  • Group 0+: for babies upto 13 kg (29lbs) approximately from birth to 12-15 months.

Group 0+ Infant Carriers

This group of car seat can be used in the front or rear of the car but CANNOT be used in the front passenger seat if there is a passenger airbag. It is safer to put them in the rear. Rearward-facing seats provide greater protection for the baby's head, neck and spine than forward-facing seats.

Babies should be in a rearward facing car seat and should not be placed in a forward-facing seat until they weigh at least 9 kgs and can sit up unaided. Babies should be kept in a rearward-facing seat for as long as possible. Once your child is above the maximum weight for a rearward-facing seat or the top of their head is above the top of the seat they should be moved into a forward-facing seat. It is not important if their knees are bent in the seat, provided they are still within the seat's weight range.

Convenience factor with this stage of car seat is that most models will have a carry handle enabling you to easily remove and carry the baby without removing them from the car seat especially handy if the baby is asleep and may also fit onto corresponding pushchair converting it to a travel system.

Group 0+ and 1 Car Seats

Suitable for Babies upto 18kg, Birth to 4 years approximately.
Ideal car seats if you do not have to constantly remove them from car to car or car to home. They are a much larger seat designed to protect your baby from newborn to 4 years approximately. The car seat is used rearward facing when using for a baby up to 9kgs. The car seat can be used forward facing once the baby has reached 9 to 13kg weight. Baby does not have to be forward facing until they are 13 kgs. It is important to check that this style of child car seat is compatible with your vehicle when fitted forward AND rearward facing. You must never leave baby asleep unattended in any car.

Forward-facing child seat

Group 1: for children weighing 9-18 kgs (20-40 lbs) approximately from 9 months - 4 years.

Once a child has outgrown a rearwards facing seat, the best option is to use a Group 1 seat with an integral harness, the large area of the harness helps to reduce the risk of injury if there is a crash. The bottom attachment between the legs will also prevent the child from sliding under, and out of the harness. They can be used in the front or rear of the car but it is safer to put them in the rear especially if there is a passenger airbag in the front. Once again it is safest to keep children in this type of car seat until they have outgrown it.

Only move your child to a booster seat once they have exceeded the maximum weight for the child seat or the top of their head is higher than the top of the seat. If you intend to use this car seat between two cars please ensure that the model of car seat purchased is suitable for both cars. It maybe simpler to purchase two seats each one fitting the car perfectly rather than buying one seat which may not fit either car perfectly as great care is needed to follow the seat belt routings and tighten well. They can also be car specific for correct fitting and not every child seat fits every car.

With this in mind it maybe worth checking out ISOFIX fitting car seats. This is a system that is intended to make fitting child seats quick and simple. All new cars are manufactured with ISOFIX points built into them allowing ISOFIX child seats to be simply plugged into the ISOFIX points in the car. This is a very useful development as many people find it difficult to fit child seats correctly and many surveys have found that a high proportion of the child seats are not fitted securely enough. Most child seats are currently designed to be fitted by using a car's adult lap and diagonal seat belt (or sometimes, just a lap belt). However car seats, seat belts and their anchorages vary dramatically between different models of cars. Car seats have different shapes, some seat belts are much shorter than others, the position of the anchor points differs so some are further forward or have shorter stalks than others. All these factors make it virtually impossible to make a child car seat that fits all cars and sometimes tricky to fit a child car seat correctly.

ISOFIX car seats are designed to solve all these problems. The ultimate aim is that any ISOFIX child car seat you buy will fit your car simply by plugging it into the ISOFIX points. The other benefit of ISOFIX is that it will create a rigid link between the child seat and the car to provide extra solidity. It is important to make sure that any ISOFIX seats that you use in the vehicle are approved for it. It is not yet the case that any ISOFIX seat will fit in every car with ISOFIX points. To fit an ISOFIX seat into some cars you may either to use a top tether kit or an ISOFIX car seat that has a drop down leg to stabilise the car seat to the car floor. Please ensure your car is suitable for whichever seat you choose by consulting the relevant manufacturers web site.

Group 2 Child Car Seats: for children weighing 15-25kgs (33-55lbs) from 4 to 10 years approximately.

If your child is over the 25kgs weight but is below 135cm in height it is recommended that the child remain in the seat. The majority of Stage 2 seats have a height adjustable back to allow you to gradually change the height of the back as your child grows; this also changes the height and angle of the seat belt, keeping it constantly in the optimum safest position. These seats do not have to be fitted to each car and will generally fit all vehicles without too many problems - sports car owners with bucket seats will need to choose a seat with a small base.

Group 1 & 2 Child Car Seats:

Suitable for children weighing 9-36kgs (20-80lbs) from 9 months to 12 years approximately or up to 135cms.

There is now a greater choice of car seats in this range than ever before. The car seat will include a child harness to be used up to 15-18kgs then the harness can be removed and the child seat can then use the adult car seat belt with most of these seats having an adjuster or seat belt guide so that the belt does not rub on the childs neck. The back rest of these seats will be height adjustable with some even having width adjustment as well.

Group 3 Child Car Seats:

Usually Suitable for children of 22kgs (48lbs) or 6 years upwards.
This child seat raises the height of the child so they can use the adult seat belt in the correct position.

WARNING:

No child seat is escape proof as harness systems are not designed to be completely child proof in order to comply with the legal requirements of ECE R44. The harness must be fastened and adjusted correctly with children encouraged to sit within the car seats harness.

If child seat has been involved in an accident or sustained any damage whatsoever it must be replaced immediately. Any damage to the car seat is not always visible such as the harness which is designed to stretch helping to prevent damage to the childs internal organs. This can only happen once with any further impact leaving the harness with no more stretch thus risking injury to the child.
This is why you should never use a second hand car seat.

If you allow your child to eat and drink in the car seat please ensure that you keep the buckle of the childs car seat clean as any food or drink that finds its way in may prevent the buckle and harness from working properly.

When Your Baby is Choking

When baby starts eating solids, it is a very exciting milestone,
but it can also be very scary because the threat of choking is
very real. You should be prepared and know what to do in case
your baby starts to choke--it could save your child's life.

Coughing is how we get foreign objects out of our throat. If
baby is coughing and can breath there is no need to interfere,
but if baby is coughing for about three minutes then he is
seriously choking and you need to help him immediately. When
baby (under the age of one) is struggling to breath, turning
blue, or unconscious you should follow these guidelines.

1. Get Help- If someone is with you have them call 911. If
you're alone, take baby with you to the phone and dial 911. The
911 operator will help you the best they can until help arrives.

2. Position Baby- Turn baby upside down, straddling your
forearm at about a 60 degree angle. If baby is small enough you
can sit down and this better supports you. If baby is too big
you can hold baby on your lap at a 60 degree angle.

3. Back blows- Give five blows in a row to the back between
baby's shoulder blades with the palm of your free hand. Back
blows will usually help expel a foreign object. If object is
still lodged, continue with chest thrusts.

4. Chest thrusts- If baby hasn't returned to normal breathing
or the object hasn't shot out of baby's mouth, turn baby's face
up and take your index and middle fingers and place them on the
sternum bone in between the nipples. Do about five chest
thrusts. If your baby is conscious, then you can repeat the
back blows and chest thrusts until the airway has become clear.
If baby has become unconscious, stop chest thrusts and back
blows and do a foreign object check.

5. Foreign object check- If there is no sign that the object
has been removed, check to see if an object can be seen. Open
baby's mouth and with your thumb hold down babies tongue and
open the jaw and see if you can see anything. If you see
something, try to remove it with the sweep of your pinky finger.

Never ever try and remove a foreign object with anything
besides your finger (i.e. pinchers, tongs or tweezers may seem
like a good idea in a stressful situation, but they can push the
foreign object farther down and make the situation worse).

6. Check the airway- If baby is still having trouble breathing,
open the airway by doing a head tilt chin lift. Cover baby's
nose and mouth with your mouth and blow two rescue breaths by
giving two slow, light breaths. If baby's chest moves up and
down then baby's airway is clear.

7. Repeat the steps.... Repeat the steps above until the
foreign object comes out and baby is breathing on his/her own,
or until the paramedics arrive and can take over for you.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to you, but it is always best to
be prepared. So take a class at your local hospital or
recreation center.

We suggest that the parents need to prepare beforehand so they will not have to rush with everything. This way, they can pay attention to what they spend. This will give them a better opportunity to survey and find the best in their given budget. While purchasing a car seat, there are some factors you will need to look into.

1. Comfortable seat
2. Soft cushion behind the forehead
3. A strong seat belt
4. A detachable hook which can be easily detached by the adults but not by the children
5. Should be a rear-facing seat (if the baby is one year old or weights more than 20 pounds)
6. The seats should be easy to install and user friendly.

If these factors are taken into consideration, then parents can have the best seats but as everything has a limit so does the pocket of the parents. The funds available would be a big concern in this case. With the variation in the available amounts, parents can choose a good seat for their baby from a wide variety of brands.

When you go shopping for car seats, whether it is in a department store in your area, a place designed especially for baby supplies or online, you are going to find many different brands to choose from. We know it is hard to choose one just by looking at it and that is why we recommend you looking into these reviews.

There are honest reviews that you can find, which you will be able to find online. These reviews will tell you which seats are bad and which seats are good. For example, if someone had a problem with latching up the baby or unlatching the lock, then they may go online and report it, which you will read in a review. If seat is easy to install, then you will be able to find that in a review as well. So, looking online would be a great idea.

- After much debating I chose this car seat as an additional car seat so my son can ride in my husband's vehicle. I was hoping it would fit in my car rear facing which it did. I was very impressed by the features prior to purchasing and am as impressed with them once we received the seat. It is relatively easy to install, has newer and better features than previous models. I like the level at the bottom which tells you how reclined your seat is. I like the no re-threading feature. I love how comfortable the seat is! I must say it is much more cushioned than the other seat we have, the Britax Marathon. It is also roomier and wider. I like that this seat goes to 50inches as opposed to 49 with the Britax Marathon. I also like the option of using it without the headrest for infants and the included insert for infants. I like the price, lower than the Britax seats. I get 7 years of use out of this one, 6 years with Britax. So far no complaints, we chose the Urban Life and it's a little darker than I thought but not too dark. Overall I would highly recommend this seat.

Why buy the True Fit convertible seat? Did you know that you can use our seat from 5 to 65 lbs and during the entire time of use your child will be secured in a 5 pt harness? Most Safety Advocates recommend keeping your child in a harness as long as possible! Advocates also recommend keeping your little one rear facing for as long as possible. We have a removable headrest that really is easy to remove. One finger lifts the release and you are able to pull the head rest off until you need it. As your infant starts to grow, simply add the head rest back on and you are good to go in the rear facing position up to 35lbs. When your infant is ready to watch you drive (at 35 lbs or so) simply make sure that head rest is in place and turn your seat around. Remember, even in the forward facing position, your child will still be using the 5 pt harness. Let's not forget about installation, all of our True Fit models feature built in lock offs and LATCH system, for both the rear and forward facing positions. We also color code all of our belt paths, making it easier for you to locate just where you should be putting your car seat belts when you install your seat. Wondering about Side Impact Testing? The True Fit seats all have deep side wings and they are all side impact tested to International Standards!

Ever try to adjust or rethread the harness straps on a car seat? Unless you have a few hours to spare, you will really appreciate our no rethread, easy to adjust harness system. We have easy to access shoulder belt height adjusters on each side of the seat and they are clearly marked with recommended positions (four) based on whether you are installing in a rear or forward facing position. All of this means you never have to spend time trying to figure out how to correctly rethread or adjust the harness. Does your child ever make a little mess with their animal crackers in the car? The combination of our no rethread harness and our easy off pad makes clean up a snap, literally, our pad snaps right off. Simply lift the center flap on the pad, unsnap the sides and clean up is as simple as can be. Once your pad is clean, it snaps back on in seconds hassle free!

As your child grows, have no worries that they will not fit in your True Fit. The interior dimensions of our seat are large and comfortable. In fact, with the extra cushy seat pads and roomier seat it may be hard to convince your child to leave their seat!

When you are ready to choose your favorite True Fit model, let us help you decide.

  • True Fit is the only car seat manufacturer with the removable top portion for rear facing. This is a big deal as it relates to installation. By removing the top portion adults in the driver position have more legroom than what is available using competitive convertible car seats.
  • Another huge feature is the external adjustment of the harness. Virtually all other manufacturers require you to rethread their harness in order to make adjustments. Utilizing an external adjustment simplifies the process and assures you of proper installation.
  • The external measurements for our seat are comparable to all other major competitors. The big difference lies in the internal dimensions where we are wider and deeper allowing the child to better fit in the seat ergonomically for a longer life cycle. Another big issue is cushioning where the child sits as our seats offer more padding in all areas of contact.
  • We now offer external mounted latch (C650 and C670 models) making for easy installation for those using this method of installation.
  • It may be trivial but we are the only manufacturer whose cup holders are level when the seat is installed in the car. All other brands incorporating cup holders are level only in the store.

Understanding Children Car Safety

One of the most important things that parents wish for their children is that they are safe and healthy as they grow and learn with age. In this day, children face numerous threats, but one of the number one killers of kids occurs during car accidents, especially with the absence of a car safety seat. Many cases could have been prevented through the use of a proper car seat for baby, booster seat for beyond the toddler age, or an overall increased knowledge of children car safety.

While it is tempting to surround your baby with brand names and designer items, you should first focus on the safety of a product. Just because an item will match the interior of your car, doesn't mean it will necessarily fit the safety needs of your child when taking a ride in the car. When choosing a seat for baby, you should know that there is a wide-range of styles, sizes, and safety features that meet a variety of expectations. Not all little ones are made the same; some are taller for their age or possess special needs. This means that not one car seat brand or model will accommodate all children.

As you scan the children car safety products on the market, there are a few starting points to consider. Infants should ride in a child safety seat that faces the rear of the car and is placed in the back seat until they turn at least the age of 1 and weigh 20 pounds. When a child is under the age of 1, there are child safety seats approved for heavier babies, but they must remain in a rear-facing apparatus until they turn 1.

Beyond the age of 1, children may graduate to a forward-facing child safety seat until they exceed the upper weight (over 40 pounds) or height limits. Once the forward-facing seat is no longer needed, children should remain back seat riders who are placed in a booster seat until they are at least 8 years old or reach 4 feet 9 inches. This is to make sure that a child is able to properly use a seat belt.

When it comes to choosing the best seat for your little one, many children safety organizations have put out various guidelines on how to take proper measurements, as well as determine the car safety seat that best accommodates a specific child. When following guidelines, you should tweak tips and suggestions to fit each individual baby, infant, or toddler.

In the world of child car safety, there are three main car seat choices to consider. Infant car seats are especially made for little babies, even though they will outgrow their use pretty quickly. The front harness adjuster and five-point harness complements the slumpy composition of a young baby body. Convertible car seats are selections that are first used for their rear-facing properties, and then as a forward-facing option. Combination car seats start out as a forward-facing harnessed option, but are then later transformed into a high-back booster seat.

An important detail to mull over when browsing seats for babies is how a particular model will correctly fit your child. An assortment of factors will affect this decision, such as age, size, weight, and special circumstances. Extremely broad or tiny shoulders, long legs, lengthy torsos, and premature infants are all points to consider when selecting a car seat for baby. While safety is of importance, you should still provide baby with a comfortable ride at the same time.

The ideal child safety seat is one that is easy to install and can be correctly used with less effort. An improperly positioned seat only puts your child in danger every time you take to the streets. A sudden jerk or swerve in the road could place your child in harm's way as an inappropriately fastened or unsecured car seat jostles and shifts about. Locating easy-to-use car safety seats is a matter of comparing features and deciding the ones that are most important to you. Some parents will choose front- over behind-the-seat harness adjustment or avoid harness traps that easily twist. You should know that car seats that tend to be less expensive often skimp on extra features that not only makes life easier, but also increases safety.

Even though you may have found a car seat with the best features and fit for your child, you need to find out how it will work within the scheme of your family car? It is important to check a car seat compatibility database to make sure the installation and use of a children safety seat with your vehicle is a match. You should also remember that the safest fit is one that makes sure the center of the car seat is securely in place.

Baby Safety - 4 Essential Safety Tips For Your Baby

1. Despite the laws against it in all states, many children still get killed in car accidents for not having car seats or the wrong way of strapping them on the seat. In buying a car safety seat, it is necessary that the seat corresponds with the size of the child, fitted to the car seat and its safety systems, is easy for parents to use and can meet all the necessary safety standards established by the federal law.

2. When transporting your baby, make sure that you put her in a child car seat that is approved and safe to use. Never ever leave your child in the car unattended even for a few seconds. Use the curb side if entering or exiting the car with your baby.

3. When about to use the baby car seat, make sure that you read the safety instructions indicated therein and follow them. Seats that are "infant only seat" are for those weighing only up to 20 pounds. You may use them with or without the base when placing it in your car. When used in the vehicle, the handle of the infant-only seats should be down.

4. The infant-only seat should be strapped at the center back seat of the car. That is the safest area of the car for it. Your baby should be rear facing. Never ever put your child in the front seat where there is an air bag. Not only is it illegal, it is also dangerous as the airbag can easily suffocate and kill your baby.
