I purchased the sunshine kids radian 80 SL after doing extensive research and which car seat to get. My first choice would have been a britax, but we already have one for my son and they tend to be pretty bulky, plus my daughter is a petite little thing, so I wanted a seat that would hold her nicely. This seemed to fit the bill since it ranges from birth to 80lbs. If she's anything like me, she might still be using it by the time she starts drivers ed!

We have yet to install the seat as it has just arrived, but a major sell for me was the super latch system since our minivan doesn't have the seat anchors for the 2nd back seat and I wanted her to sit back there with me (she hates her current car seat and is a major drama queen when we put her in it for EVERY trip). This seat has much more padding than her current Graco seat, is a LOT heavier and sturdier. My son can lean over from his seat and jiggle her current car seat. I doubt he'll be able to do so with this one. I can barely lift it since it weighs over 22lbs, so I'm glad I didn't spend any money on a backpack/travel pack for it. I don't see how the thing could possibly be carried. They may want to put a more accurate pic on their box cos there is no way a woman can carry this thing in one hand while holding her child with the other!

Great Alternative to Britax - Seatchecker -
Radians are really great seats and this model delivers all of the features of the other great Radian seats without the high price tag. Most children can use this seat in the Rear-Facing position from birth (5 lbs) well into the toddler years (45 lbs). The big selling point over Britax seats is that the Rear-Facing harness slots will accommodate a child 53 inches tall, where the Britax Marathon only goes to 49 inches. For a toddler, that can equal another year or two in the safest Rear-Facing position.

This seat is very narrow, and is ideal for fitting three seats across a small sedan. It is also one of the only seats that can be used in the forward-facing position without the use of the rear tether anchor, making it ideal for trucks and older model cars that may not have a place to clip the anchor.

Most vehicle manufactures do not allowed the use of LATCH for children over 45 lbs. If you are considering a Radian because of the Super Latch feature, be sure to consult your vehicle's owners manual or call the vehicle manufacturer to verify the LATCH limits for your specific make and model vehicle.

Dispite other reviews, I am pleased with this seat. It was a little difficult to get ready for the car, but what baby item isn't. I have no problem with the buckle or straps at all. My son is 10 months and weights over 24lbs so we have it installed facing backwards with the latch system. Despite him being heavy, it doesn't tilt, even on sharp turns, like our old evenflo carseat did. We did put a towel underneat the carseat since our seats are really slanted so it would recline more but we have had to do this with all our car seats. Finally, I love that the seat is wide. I bought one of these car seats because quite honestly it looked and measured to be the most compact, hence the "best" seeming fit for my rear-facing car seat needs. I've bought a bunch of other Eddie Bauer accessories and found the quality to be pretty good, so I went with my instinct and made the purchase for 9 at Target. After installing this in the back of my Mazda CX9 (by no means a small vehicle) the car seat would not stay in position and jostled out of alignment time and time again. No matter how hard I tried or how diligent I was with the latch system, the seat would not stay in position...very very dangerous for your baby. Also notable is that the seat is 100% plastic and very cheap feeling. There's an "adjustable" stand that makes it convert from rear to forward facing, but it does a horrible job at keeping this unit in place. Lastly I should note that the child has zero protection in this seat...my little girl is only 9 months and 18 lbs, yet she seemed like a giant in the seat and you could see she was fully exposed. We decided to go with a different unit...evenflow has an awesome new one that rivals a britmax safety wise. Take a look at that one...or any other one, but do yourself a favor and don't buy this...you'll just end up returning it.

I have been happy with Eddie Bauer products and so wanted to buy this one for a while. I never purchased convertible car seat in the past so I had to do lot of research before buying one.

The previous carseat for infants was getting small for my son, so I decided to buy a bigger car-seat that will last for a long time. I hope this is the last carseat I have to ever buy for my son.

The car-seat fits perfectly in the car without much trouble. I was worried about it and it's effect on the front seat.

My car is Honda Civic 2008 model, It was not a problem at all and I did not pull the front seat too much.

My son likes it and I am happy with the product.

Update:
It's been a month now, there has been not a single instance of belt tangling. Belt tangling was a problem with the infant car-seat that I had from Eddie Bauer.

Buckling the kid is quit easy, It really does not take much effort to buckle up and I can unbuckle the kid with just one hand (with left hand, I am a right handed person)

We got this seat because at the time it was the only one that would fit my infant daughter in her hip brace. And I have never liked it. We bought it in 2008, so they may have improved it since then, but it has nothing going for it. The buckles are extremely hard to get undone (good thing I guess for a toddler - she can't escape), the seat pitches her forward making it uncomfortable for her to sleep in (her head falls forward), the latch straps are tough to remove/insert (I have to put my full body weight into the seat to latch them and even sometimes I struggle with it). I would never buy this again, and after two years and another baby on the way, we've purchased another seat because I am just tired of fighting with it.

We had trouble installing this in my Honda Civic. You can't install it properly in the middle of the back seat (like we had done with our Chicco Keyfit 30), so you have to put it on the passenger side of the back seat (so you can see the baby), and the seats are pretty deep. I've been using this car seat for over a year with my son (soon to be 3) and it has held up wonderfully! My family lives 11 hours away so I was concerned about comfort on the long drive and how long the seat would hold up making that trip. It has held up wonderfully! I have on several occasions recommended this seat (often unsolicited). Hides stains and such very well. I also found it very easy to install, even when using the latch system. The size is great too because it isn't overly bulky but has plenty of room for my son, his snack, his sippy, elephant, 2 horses, dinosaur, and blanket.
Of course, there is one downfall. While this says the pad is removable for washing - and the newer model may have gotten it right - my cover does not come out for washing.

I found this product difficult to install. Would have wanted to know that the latch system is difficult to use and that my the headrest is very difficult to properly adjust for my sons comfort.

This car seat is horrible. We used the LATCH system with the seat facing the rear. It was so hard for my husband and I to tighten the seat enough. It kept tipping over, even with towels underneath. Also, the head rest is huge!! My son's head is either down or flopped to the side, and he hates it. I wish we could remove it, but it doesn't come off. We received this as a gift before he was born, so we have no way of returing it. I am very disappointed.

I am a mom to 6 kids, ages range from 11 years to 6 months. I have tried every carseat out there, and have fallen in LOVE with this one. We own three of these, and I am buying a fourth for our 6 month old. We firt purchased one of these seats in March 2006. Other carseats get bunched up with the straps, or they are a pain to adjust the straps, or they don't fit the baby right, or are too frustrating to figure out. This one is super easy, even to take apart and wash, and put back together. It has the LATCH system, which makes it super easy to install, and easy to get the right height with the adjustable base that is included. It also has a strap between the legs that you can easily adjust the straps around the child, with a touch of a button, if they are wearing a coat, or take the coat off. I love that feature! I went on an airplane from Tampa, FL, to Sacramento, CA by myself with my 5 kids at the time, and brought 2 of these carseats on the airplane, for my 11 month old, and my 23 month old, and they fit perfect, even side by side on the plane seats. We have an 8 seater toyota sienna minivan, and I have these 3 carseats installed in our van, with plenty of room for my other 3 kids. I don't know why it has such a bad review, unless people aren't using it properly. I have tried some of the other seats out there, and get so frustrated with everything on them, this is the only seat to buy. I usually transfer my babies into this seat around 6-7 months old, and they fit great. We have an autistic 4 year old, and he still fits this seat with the 5 point harness system very comfortably, and he can't escape it either. I love the cupholders, although I don't know if that is still a feature. The one thing we didn't really like was the attached pillow, so we just take it off. The covered straps work great for supporting the babies and toddlers heads when they fall asleep. We recently went to California driving from Colorado (20 hour drive, and we drove straight through the night) and both boys heads were well supported, and they slept great both there and back. I have owned one of these seats for almost 4 years, and the other 2 for about 2 years, and they are all still in perfect shape!
